An Act to make amendments consequential on the enactment of the News Journalism Payments Act 2026 , and for related purposes [ Assented to 26 August 2026 ] The Parliament of Australia enacts: 1 Short title This Act is the News Journalism Payments (Consequential Amendments) Act 2026 . 2 Commencement (1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Note: This table relates only to the provisions of this Act as originally enacted. It will not be amended to deal with any later amendments of this Act. (2) Any information in column 3 of the table is not part of this Act. Information may be inserted in this column, or information in it may be edited, in any published version of this Act. 3 Schedules Legislation that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms. Schedule 1 — Amendments

Competition and Consumer Act 2010 1 Section 52A Insert: Communications Secretary means the Secretary of the Department administered by the Minister administering the News Journalism Payments Act 2026. 2 At the end of Division 3 of Part IVBA Add: 52PA Notification of Communications Secretary (1) The ACMA must: (a) notify the Communications Secretary if any of the events in column 1 of the following table occur; and (b) include the information in column 2 in the notification:

5 The ACMA revokes the registration of a registered news business corporation under subsection 52H(4) or (5) or 52I(2) Details of the following: (a) the corporation; (b) each news business for which the corporation was endorsed; (c) the reason for the revocation

6 The ACMA revokes the endorsement of a registered news business corporation as the registered news business corporation for a registered news business under subsection 52H(6) or 52I(2) Details of the following: (a) the registered news business corporation; (b) the registered news business; (c) the reason for the revocation

7 The ACMA revokes the endorsement of a registered news business corporation as the registered news business corporation for a registered news business under subsection 52H(7) Details of the following: (a) each of the registered news business corporations mentioned in subsection 52H(7); (b) the registered news business; (c) the reason for the revocation

8 A registered news business corporation gives the ACMA a notification under section 52J Details of the following: (a) the registered news business corporation; (b) if the notification under section 52J relates to a registered news business—that registered news business; (c) the requirement that was not met 9 The ACMA adds a news source to a registered news business under subsection 52K(3) Details of the following: (a) the registered news business corporation that made the application under subsection 52K(1); (b) the registered news business (including details of the news source that was added)

10 The ACMA removes a news source from a registered news business under subsection 52K(4) Details of the following: (a) the registered news business corporation that made the application under subsection 52K(1); (b) the registered news business (including details of the news source that was removed)

(2) The notification must: (a) specify the day on which the event occurred; and (b) be given as soon as practicable after the event; and (c) if the notification is required to include details of a registered news business corporation—include details of the corporation’s point of contact (if any) set up for the purpose of section 52Z; and (d) if the notification is required to include details of a news business—include details of each of the news sources that comprise the news business.
